Académico del Instituto de Ciencias Marinas y Limnológicas de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Universidad Austral de Chile.
Licenciado en biología marina de la Universidad Austral de Chile y doctor en oceanografía de la Universidad de Concepción. Entre los principales tópicos que ha estudiado, destacan la ecología y rol trófico de organismos pelágicos en los sistemas marinos y estuarinos.
En el Centro IDEAL, sus investigaciones se han centrado en estimar el efecto de la desglaciación en la sobrevivencia de zooplancton en ambientes subantárticos y antárticos y cómo ello modifica los flujos de energía y secuestro de materia orgánica en estos ecosistemas.
