Professor at Scripps Institution of Oceanography of the University of California San Diego.

She studied Biological Sciences at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and completed her Master’s and Doctorate in Biological Oceanography at the University of Washington, United States.

Throughout her career, she has devoted her time to the study of the ecology and physiology of polar phytoplankton, the plankton carbon cycle, long-term changes in marine ecosystems, and the effect of climate change on phytoplankton communities, among other subjects.
