Erasmo Macaya Horta

Professor at the Department of Oceanography at the University of Concepción.

Marine Biologist with M.Sc. in Marine Science at the Catholic University of the North. He earned his PhD in Marine Biology at the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. His research is focused on the study of marine macroalgae in areas such as ecology, diversity and molecular biology. He has traveled much of the Chilean coast documenting the diversity of algae.

In order to study the distribution and taxonomy of macroalgae, he has participated in several expeditions to The Juan Fernandez Islands and Easter Island. Currently, he is the director of the ALGALAB, Algal Research Laboratory, University of Concepción.
