Line of research
The Task Force is an interdisciplinary group of researchers from the different IDEAL Center work teams who have come together with the mission of addressing interdisciplinary research questions oriented to socio-ecological problems in the Magallanes and Antarctica Regions and providing tools to help decision-making of local actors.
This group has proposed to address two issues of regional importance: to study the incidence of red tide and its effects on the social system and to carry out an evaluation of the socio-ecological sensitivity of the coastal marine system in southern Chile to salmon farming. For this, each problem will be addressed through the collection, systematization and analysis of data using synthesis tools, case analysis and mathematical modeling, among others.
From our database you can access different scientific publications of this and other research groups of the IDEAL Center.

Research determined factors causing large fish mortality in the Comau Fjord in 2021
Scientists highlight the need to study the forms of feeding that toxic microalgae have to maintain a bloom for a long time, considering the new environmental variables generated by climate change. During the months of March and April 2021, thousands of salmon died as...
Work is reinforced to detect possible invasive species in Antarctica
With the help of an underwater drone and the analysis of the hull of ships, a team of researchers seeks to early detect any organism that could disturb the fragile biodiversity of this territory. In 2020, a group of scientists made a complex discovery on the coast of...
Chilean scientists describe unexplored habitat in Antarctica
The study, published by the scientific journal Biology, highlights new environments that could be refuge and breeding areas for countless marine organisms. The detachment of icebergs in Antarctica has increased in recent years as a consequence of climate change that...
