Lines of investigation
The IDEAL Center develops its action through four study groups and an interdisciplinary team (task force). All of them work together in two strategic areas: the southern Patagonia of Chile and the Antarctic Peninsula.

Line of research
Pelagic Processes
Atmospheric, hydrological and oceanographic stressors derived from climate change and anthropogenic activity on the ocean and cryosphere will affect the structure and functions of the marine ecosystems of southern southern Patagonia and the Western Antarctic Peninsula (WAP).

Bioinvasions
and Endemism
The Antarctic Circumpolar Current and extreme environmental conditions have represented an effective barrier to isolate the biota of different regions of the Southern Ocean.
